Four Years Old

Wednesday, April 26, 2017

Wyatt,
Our precious boy, how can it be that you are four years old today?! You are your daddy's mini-me and sometimes I feel like he's talking to me, not a little boy! You love to be outside helping with all projects that daddy's working on--playhouse, go-carts, cars, etc. But you also really love your mama, especially when you're sad or tired. We love you so much and it's really hard to remember time before you were in our world!

What you've been up to:
  • You weigh somewhere around 45 pounds and are about 45 inches tall.
  • You wear size 5 in clothes and 12/13 in shoes.
  • You are still a pretty picky eater. You like to eat chicken--chicken nuggets, popcorn chicken, chicken fingers, etc. You like most fruits--pears, strawberries, grapes, apples, bananas. You're not crazy about casseroles or mushy food. You still don't really like to eat beef/pork, unless it's a crunchy taco. You love pizza, smoothies, Nature Valley bars, waffles, rice, PB&J, grilled cheese sandwiches, french fries.
  • You do not nap anymore, unless you happen to fall asleep in the car. You go down around 7:30pm and usually wake around 7:00/7:30am.
  • You're a talking machine and are rarely quiet. You're very inquisitive and love asking questions about everything.
  • Your favorite songs right now are mostly soundtracks, "Home", "Trolls", "Sing", and "Moana".
  • You can count 1-10, identify numbers 1-4, and identify some letters of the alphabet.
  • You can spell your name aloud and we're working on writing your name.
  • You pretty much dress yourself. I have to help you with shirts but you typically pick out your clothes and get dressed by yourself.
  • You still love school!
  • You love going to the park, and I love watching you play with all the other kids!
  • You still love to watch the trains! They've been working on replacing the tracks recently and you love to watch them work. You also have a fascination with bridges and water towers.
  • You've recently started doing laundry. I have to keep an eye on you because you'll start it without me knowing. You're always getting the clothes out of your basket and putting them in the washing machine.
  • You also enjoy helping me in the kitchen--getting food out, stirring, mixing, etc.
  • Favorite things to say: "Oh my gosh!"; recently you've started saying, "That's not the problem!"; when Stella gets upset you are quick to try and calm her down, "It's okay, Sissy. It's okay."; when I'm trying to explain why you can't misbehave, you say, "I know, mom. I know. I'm sorry."
  • You've also started some not-so-fun habits in the past couple of months. You can throw some epic tantrums, you've started whining, and sometimes you can be pretty rough (especially with Stella).
  • You love your family and it makes me so happy!

Easter 2017

Monday, April 17, 2017

Thought I'd share a little re-cap of our Easter celebrations from this past weekend. We had a pretty low-key weekend but it was still lots of fun!

Our Easter celebrations started on Thursday with the kids' Easter parties at school. Unfortunately I was not able to attend but I know they had a great time. Although, Wyatt definitely noticed that I was not present and was really happy to be reunited with Mama.

Saturday we had our annual Easter egg hunt at church. Wyatt was pretty concerned when we arrived and there was not bounce house in sight, but thankfully that didn't last long.

They loved hunting for eggs! But it's still so fun to watch them pass 20 eggs for one, I really wish I knew there thought process. Stella arrived to the hunt with her own eggs and spent a majority of the time deciding which ones to keep. And she gave all of the Paw Patrol eggs she found to Wyatt. She really can be sweet.

Stella was much more concerned with the Easter bunny, and I'm pretty sure she'd follow that guy home if we didn't watch her. She hugged him (or her??) multiple times and kept him in her sight.

Sunday we stuck with our normal church routine. I gave Sean the option for pictures with the tripod or someone at church taking one. Obviously he voted for the tripod. And I'm not complaining.

Notice a difference on Wyatt?? Yep, that's the haircut he got the night before Easter. He told me to stop rubbing it so it wouldn't fall off. He's precious.

Our Sunday was pretty laid-back--church, Home Depot, naps, smoked chicken, and playing outside. Just the perfect kind of day.

Hope you all had a wonderful Easter with your family!

two {point} five

Tuesday, April 11, 2017

So hard to believe that our little Cupcake Monster is 2.5 today! It's so surreal to think about her as such a big girl and not just our baby girl.

She's definitely grown into her own little personality and is full of giggles, independence, and sass. She finds joy in changing clothes (countless times a day + it's usually pajamas), copying what I say (especially when it's directed towards Wyatt), and doing anything + everything that Wyatt does.

Likes: You are still attached to your pink blanket. You still love your Wyatt--some days more than others, babies (real & dolls), being outside (especially the park), baths, animals (particularly cats & dogs), shoes, books, swinging, cuddles, movies (current favs: Trolls, Moana, Secret Life of Pets, + Sing)
Dislikes: Basically just being told no, and not being held when you want to be. You also don't like to be helped with things (opening snacks, putting on shoes, getting dressed, etc.)

Sleep: Thankfully you're still a great sleeper at night. You go down around 7:30 at night and wake around 7 in the morning. You still take a nap in the afternoon around 1:30 for about 2 hours.
Favorite Things to Say: You say everything--sometimes too much. You went through a "stop it" phase where you would say it to me if you didn't like what I was saying. You really just enjoy copying things that people say, so sometimes we hear Wyatt say something + you chime in right after.
Favorite Songs: Your favorite songs right now are songs from movies. We have the Trolls, Moana, and Sing soundtracks and you love them all.
Favorite Foods: Noodles (butter, spaghetti, pasta salad, cheesy), pepperoni, chips/crackers, veggie/fruit pouches, Nature Valley bars, tuna, strawberries, smoothies, and yogurt.
Learning: You know your colors and how to count to 10. We've also been working on letters but most of the time you call everything 'A'. You are still loving school and dance class!
Potty Training: We transitioned to pull-ups, mainly because they were easier for you to use when pooping, which you do consistently in the potty. We are going to start potty training as soon as school is out.

Afternoons with {READ WITH FONICS}

Thursday, April 6, 2017

Since Wyatt has dropped naps altogether, afternoons with can sometimes get a little long. Especially when it's spring and raining almost everyday. We were recently introduced to a new app, Read with Fonics, and it has been such a game-changer for us.

Read with Fonics

I was a little nervous when I was first introduced to the app. Honestly, I thought it would be too difficult for Wyatt. I have been so blown away by how well he does at connecting the letters and sounds.

Read with Fonics

There are four worlds that children can explore, each one being a little more difficult than the one before. With Read with Fonics children can learn 44 phonics sounds, play 116 different phonics games, and learn to read 1,200+ words.

Read with Fonics

I highly recommend this app for parents, teachers, daycares. I feel like there is never a bad time to encourage our children to read, and why not make it fun! You can access the app in the following forms:

iTunes
Google Play
Amazon

Let me know if you have tried Read with Fonics or if it sounds like something you'd like to  try with your kids!
