One Day

Sunday, March 27, 2011

One Day is a book written by David Nicholls.  It's about two people, Dexter and Emma, who meet the night of their college graduation in 1988.  Basically the book follows their relationship by looking at one day out of each year throughout twenty years.  It was a great love story! It was a little slow at the beginning, but I read the middle and ending within two days. . .I couldn't put it down.  It's also going to be a movie, starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess.  It'll  be released sometime this summer.

Spring is in Full Swing

This past week was Spring Break, which means I got to take a short trip to Fayetteville to spend time with my family.  Poor Sean. . .he had to work.  It was a great week filled with walking in the beautiful sunshine, shopping, lunch outings, and wonderful meals (that I did not have to prepare).  Well, I did learn how to make homemade gravy, but that was the extent of my cooking.

After our 6+ mile walk in the sunshine.

Me and my "little" brother, Cody.

Cary Beth (cousin) and I after a great lunch.

After I finally made it back to Camden, I was welcomed with more warm weather and sunshine!  We spent the last Saturday of Spring Break

getting the mower ready for the next 6 months,

pulling down a dead tree,

enjoying the beautiful spring scenery,

and tried to clean up some of the pollen (which I know is a waste of time because it will just be back tomorrow).

Now I'm back inside today with my sweatpants and a blanket because it's cold and yucky outside.  Hopefully this won't last long.

The Teacher that went to Church

Monday, March 21, 2011

This was the best picture (of me). . . even though Sean's not looking.
I'm very excited to say that we have officially joined FUMC in Camden.  We're super excited and can't wait to start serving Christ through our ministries.  But no I must tell the story of one of the first times we attended ...

Our friends had been attending this church off and on for a while and so we decided to start joining them.  I didn't realize how many people I knew that attended, mostly people I work with.  But I quickly learned that one of my students attends too.  He was very excited, they always are when they realize that their teacher is a person outside of school.  So the first time we went he saw me and of course on Monday the following day he had to tell all of the other students.  So we decide to go again the following Sunday.  Everything was going great and then the pastor called up the children for children's time.  He's talking about spreading the word of God to others and inviting people to church.  And he says "Joe (not real name of student) you invited your teacher to church, didn't you?"  And I don't know what Joe said, but I'm pretty sure he shook his head no.  But then the pastor says, "AND SHE CAME!!"  At this point I'm sinking way down into the pew. . . and Sean says, "Who's his teacher?" I just started laughing and said, "I am!"
So the service goes on and the sermon is also about bringing people to church and spreading the word about God.  And at the end of it he says, "Just like that teacher who was invited by Joe who came to church." OMGOSH!!
Well to conclude the story, on Sunday Joe's mom came up to me and of course said how excited they were to have us join.  And she leaned in and said laughingly, "Joe didn't invite you did he?" We both just started cracking up!
So now I'm not just the teacher who went to church, I am the teacher who joined the church.

We are very excited and we can't wait to start being active in a church again.  I've actually already signed up to help organize VBS for this summer. I was also excited that my mom was there Sunday to see us join.  I always love when they come down!

Fabulous Weekend!!

Sunday, March 13, 2011

This weekend just started out awesome altogether.  We had to make a quick trip to Little Rock on Friday to pick up something that Sean had ordered, so that meant CHICK-FIL-A!!  For anyone who knows Sean and I, they know we are Chick fanatics.  I mean who goes to Little Rock (from Camden) and eats fast food??  WE DO!! Santa had given us gift cards so we finally got an opportunity to put them to use.

Saturday was just an absolutely beautiful day, which was perfect for the Camden Daffodil Festival.  We made our way downtown to do some shopping and attend the Steak Cook-Off.  We didn't actually have tickets so we couldn't eat any of the steak, but I did have a little sampling.  It was nice just to hang out with some friends and listen to a little music.

We finished off the great weekend on Sunday be grabbing some lunch in Magnolia with some friends.  Then we rode our bikes around the SAU campus.  It's really nice, they have about a 2 mile paved trail.  Then, to make sure we didn't burn too many calories, we headed to Dairy Queen to reward ourselves.  We felt bad afterwards so we decided we should excercise some more, so we went to Logoly State Park.  I did my first mountainbike trail!! I did pretty well for a 2 mile trail. . . I think anyway.  We then found out afterwards that they don't allow bikes on that trail, so much for the sign they didn't put up. Oh well, it was fun anyway!!

Now it's time to settle in and get ready for the last week before Spring Break!!

New Year's Resolutions Update. . .

Tuesday, March 8, 2011

I wanted to give an update on the 6 new year's resolutions I made at the beginning of the year.
I'd say we're doing okay so far.

  1. Quit biting fingernails - YES!! I have done it, for the most part.  I just really have to make sure to keep them filed.
  2. Lose 5-10 pounds - Well I'm doing pretty well.  I don't know if my scale is broken or what but on Saturday when I weighed myself I had lost 5.6 pounds in 6 weeks.  I'm trying to watch my portion sizes and eat more fruits and vegetables.  I workout 4 nights a week.  I do two nights of Zumba and two nights on the stationary bike.
  3. Start getting up at 5:15ish - Yea, this has not happened at all.  I'm pretty sure I get up later than I used to.
  4. Read the Bible - Well. . .I started.
  5. Make the bed everyday - I actually forgot that this was on the list.  I need to get on this.  It would probably help if I got up a little earlier.
  6. Find a church - We have found a church, First United Methodist.  We are working on becoming members!!
