Five on Friday {My Closet Must-Haves}

Friday, January 31, 2014

I'm linking-up for 5 on Friday with DARCI, NATASHA, APRIL, and CHRISTINA on this dreary Friday. I'm sharing my absolute favorite closet must-haves.  These are items that I wear on the daily...and have for awhile! Let me just say ahead of time, I am not a fashionista, I simply dress for comfort.  So, let's get to it!

--ONE--
Piko Tops
I get all of my pikos at RIFFRAFF.  You can buy them online or if you're local you can sometimes find them in the store.

--TWO--
TOMS Black Suede Desert Wedge
I got a pair of these for Christmas and I'm in love.  They're so comfortable and can be worn with everything!

--THREE--.
GAP 1969 Acid Wash Jeans
I bought a similar pair from GAP probably two years ago, and as you can see they're still in style.  I love the color, and the cuff works great for wearing heels, wedges, or flats.

--FOUR--
OLD NAVY Vintage-Style V-Neck Tees
I absolutely love these tees! I think I have them in every color they come in.  They're perfect for wearing with jeans or leggings, and can be worn alone or with layers.
--FIVE--
MINNETONKA Kilty Suede Moc
This is another item that I've seriously had in my closet for about 2 years, and you can still buy them.  Again, they're really comfortable and can be worn with just about anything.

Such is Life....With a Mobile Baby

Wednesday, January 29, 2014

Oh, how times have changed since our little guy became mobile, especially nap time! Nap time for me used to be a time of rest and rejuvenation, HA!...not anymore!  I thought I'd share a list of things that I can no longer do while Wyatt is awake. Or, you could look at it as things I have to do during nap time.
  1.  Unload/load the dishwasher - That thing is like a magnet for Wyatt.  As soon as I open it up, here he comes...wanting to put his hands aaaall in that.
  2. Laundry - Now mind you, I can still put away the clothes that are piled up in our bedroom.  But I can no longer step foot into the laundry room.  See, that's where the litter box is and, yea, I don't even want to introduce him to that.
  3. Go to the bathroom - Now, obviously I'm joking...sorta.  Not saying I don't clean our bathrooms but they are just a breeding ground for germs.  And, of course, he wants to put his little hands all over the toilet.
  4. Put the animals water out - Yea, I can't even count the number of times he's already knocked that over.
  5. Sweep the floors - I haven't even attempted this one while he's awake.  I'm just imagining a nice pile of whatever, and him crawling right through the middle of it.  Nice.
  6. Mop - Oh, I can see those little hand prints now!

Oh well, good thing I have hobbies I can do instead of that list.  Chores can always wait, but maybe the animals can't, ha!

Trendy Tot Tuesday: Daddy Picks

Tuesday, January 28, 2014

As I mentioned on Friday, Sean, Wyatt, and I took a little day trip to Hot Springs on Friday.  We did a little shopping, a lot of browsing, and some eating.  We finally used a gift card to Outback that we've had since Christmas 2012 (yes, you read that right, 2012!).  It was so good, and Wyatt had a great time.  We were lucky enough to have been seated next to a table of high school girls, needless to say he was entertained.

After dinner we drove over to Old Navy to see if we could find anything.  Sean picked out these shirts for Wyatt, he was pretty proud of himself.  I have to say, my favorite is definitely the grey pocket tee.  Sean is known for wearing plain grey tees pretty much everyday, at least when he's not at work.  There is definitely a photo opp in their near future!
**Pictures are links**

Can't wait to see our little guy sportin' these very soon!

9 Months!!

Sunday, January 26, 2014

Wyatt,
You're learning and doing new things everyday. Sometimes I wonder how such a little person can already know so much! You're growing into a little boy right before our eyes.  You are such a busy little boy, I don't think you stop moving when you're awake...or asleep, for that matter.  We love watching you explore and be mischievous, for now it's still entertaining for us.  We love you so much, baby boy! Happy 9 months!!

What you did this month:
  • You weight is still holding steady around 20 pounds.
  • You are wearing size 3 diapers.
  • You are wearing size 12 months and 12-18 months clothing.  We put all your clothes sizes 0-9 months in storage this month.
  • You started drinking formula this month.  You take 5-6 ounces about 6 times a day.
  • You eat solids for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
  • You have become quite the picky eater this month.  You prefer to feed yourself, and you definitely go through phases with likes/dislikes.  For about 2 weeks you loved chicken, now you won't touch it.  Applesauce is the only constant in your life!
  • You are taking naps around 10:00 and 3:00, and you sleep for 1.5 - 2 hours.
  • You got pretty sick this month.  You had a upper respiratory infection, pink eye, and a urinary tract infection all in the same week.
  • You started crawling this month!! And wouldn't ya' know, it was while you were sick.
  • You still love your kitty cats and puppy. They're not to sure about the whole crawling and being chased thing.
  • You started playing peek-a-boo just this week!
  • You and your daddy had your first guy date, to the hardware store, of course!
  • Your Mimi came to visit you this month!
  • You love to watch Wheel of Fortune.  When you hear it come on the TV you stop and crawl as fast as you can to the TV.

Also, you no longer like to sit still to have your picture taken...just thought I'd mention that. :)

5 on Friday: Randomness

Friday, January 24, 2014

Well, it's been awhile but I'm back and linking up with DARCI, NATASHA, APRIL, & CHRISTINA for 5 on Friday! So, let's get to it!!
--ONE--
First off, I'm so glad it's the freakin' weekend!! We're headed to Hot Springs today...I need to get out of town.  We'll definitely be hitting up Hobby Lobby, maybe some Old Navy, and probably Chick-fil-A! Hoping to get started on some ideas for our little guys big birthday party!
--TWO--
Last night I cooked up some homemade chicken noodle soup.  Now, for those of you that know me, you know that is no small feat! I'm  not what you'd call a great cook, so I was pretty proud of myself.  I even felt it was good enough to share with a friend!  Too bad my hubby is not much of a soup guy, but he ate it, obligingly.

--THREE--
Wyatt has taken to formula, like I take to chocolate! Oh, my, that guy can put it away I tell ya'! I guess I thought it would take a little longer to wean him because of our last experience with formula...he hated it.  I'm now officially done with breastfeeding, I'm just having to pump about once a day before bed....hopefully I'll be done with that soon.

--FOUR--
Speaking of our little guy, he has started a new thing where he wants to sleep with his music soother on.  I lay him down in his crib and he immediately pops up and stares at it, as if to say, I'm ready for the show! He's so cute! Thankfully it only plays for 15 minutes and he's always asleep before it's finished.
--FIVE--
If you missed my POST from Tuesday, I shared some of my favorite Valentine's Day finds for little boys! I'm praying they still have some things left today!

Hope y'all have a great weekend!!

Trendy Tot Tuesday: Valentine's Day Style for Boys

Tuesday, January 21, 2014

I have seen so many cute Valentine's Day clothing ideas floating around for little girls, so I had to go on the hunt for some little boy finds.  I found these adorable tees from GAP and Old Navy, and the best part is that most are marked down right now!
**Please note: #2 is from the Canadian Old Navy site.  Apparently they sold out overnight in the US.**

GAP has also added some new items to their Love Collection since last night, and they're, of course, precious!

Our 4-Day Weekend

Monday, January 20, 2014

We had a fabulous, illness-free, weekend...finally! I'll do a little re-cap for those of you who don't know.  The Dorey Plague 2014 hit me first and I was down with a stomach virus two weeks ago.  The next morning Wyatt woke up with pink eye in one eye and by Wednesday it was in both eye.  He continued to be extremely fussy, especially at night.  He was coughing a lot but it also seemed like he was possibly having some kind of tummy trouble.  Friday I took him into the doctor and he fussed/cried the entire time we were there.  Dr. G. diagnosed him with a URI but also knew something else wasn't right.  So, they put a "bag" around his penis so they could do a urinalysis and urine culture.  We got the results back on the urinalysis almost immediately and they were negative.  Meanwhile, the coughing continued so by Monday we were starting an antibiotic.  Monday night I got word on the urine culture....it was positive.  Finally, we had found an answer to the problems we'd been having.  So, Tuesday morning we finally started antibiotics for the UTI.  I was so happy to be able to give my baby boy some relief! Needless to say, we spent last week resting and recuperating.
It was a really great relaxing weekend, and the best part?? My mama was here!! I love when she comes to visit.  She needed Wyatt time and I needed a little rest....win, win!  The weather was beautiful so we had some good quality time outside, riding in the wagon, swinging, and going for a walk.  I was so excited for mom to see Wyatt crawling around (yes, he's mobile!!).  Sean and I were also able to go out to eat, I love our date nights.
Like I said, Wyatt is mobile and into everything! He started really crawling last weekend but has really taken off this week.  He's also trying to pull up on everything, so far he's just made it to his knees.  A mobile baby means baby-proofing.  Sunday morning Sean installed some LOCKS on our cabinets...now, if I could just remember they're locked. Anyways, it was nice having mom here to help wrangle him a little.
Sunday evening we went over to our friend's house to eat pizza and watch the 49ers and the Seahawks play. I honestly couldn't tell you who was playing in the game until we got there....shows how much I pay attention.  I spent a majority of the time watching and playing with Wyatt.  But it was nice to get out of the house and socialize, ha!
It's a long weekend for Sean so today we've been spending a lot of time outside.  It's so nice today, 70 degrees.  Enjoying the last warm day for a while.
Hope everyone has had a great weekend, and hopefully it's a 4-day weekend for you!

The Time Has Come

Wednesday, January 15, 2014

I'm working on transitioning Wyatt from breastfeeding to formula.  It's a slow transition but I feel like it's the right time for us.  I have been breastfeeding Wyatt for almost 9 months and I'm ready to be finished. I know this may not be what everyone else does or what's right, but I'm ready.  I breastfed for the health benefits (for both of us), the price tag (FREE!!), and the bonding time.  It's not that I don't enjoy breastfeeding, it's more about me being ready to have some of my time and my body back.  I'd also like for Sean to be able to experience more with him.
This is a transition that just started this week.  I was thinking about it before Christmas but knew I'd have to wait until our lives were settled down again.  I'm using Similiac for Supplementation....it says it's for breastfeeding moms who want to introduce formula, so I say why not!  I'd tried introducing formula back a few months ago and, obviously, it didn't work out.  So far (the two days I've tried), he's taken this formula without a hitch.  I'm supplementing during his 3:00 feeding right before nap time.  I'm still pumping just so I don't get engorged, pumping less each day.  If we are successful this week, I'm planning to give him formula at his 10:00 morning feeding next week.
If any of you have any advice or tips I'd love to hear them.  I'm just kind of going with it and if it works, it works.

Taste of Tuesday: Tuna Casserole

Tuesday, January 14, 2014

I'm linking up for the first time with LET'S GET BANANAS  and BLISSFULLY MILLER for Taste of Tuesday.  I'm always looking for new recipes and I saw this link-up floating around, and so I thought why not!

In college I was obsessed with Tuna Helper! Now, I realize not everyone has a stomach for tuna, i.e. my roommate and BFF Kris, and for that I apologize for this torture!  When Sean and I got married and I became such the domestic housewife, HA! I realized that I could make the same thing without needing the actual box of Tuna Helper...what??  So, this is my take on it.
Ingredients:
  1. 12 oz package of noodles
  2. 2 C shredded cheese
  3. 1 C frozen peas
  4. 12 oz can of tuna
  5. 2 10.75 oz cream of mushroom soup (condensed)
Directions:
  1. Pre-heat over to 425 degrees.
  2. Boil pasta
  3. Combine cooked noodles, 1 C of cheese, peas, drained tuna, and soup.
  4. Put in a 9x13 baking dish.
  5. Top with remaining cheese.
  6. Bake 15-20 minutes.
And there you have it, folks! Tuna casserole....without the help of a box!

Time for a Change!!

Monday, January 13, 2014

What do y'all think of my new look?? I absolutely love it, and I hope y'all do too!
Jana from Jana Tolman Design hooked me up with this new blog design! She did such a fabulous job and in such a short time.  I highly recommend her if you're in the market for anything blog design related.  Jana was so easy to work with and did exactly what I wanted.  She even created a button for my page and a Facebook cover photo my FB PAGE!!

This change could not have come at a better time! I'm ready to start this week of on the right foot and have a much better week than the last one!! Thank you all so much for your thoughts this past week.  We're all doing much better now.  Wyatt's on an antibiotic and actually sleeping better than he has in so long! (I probably totally just jinxed myself, HA!)
Anyway, here's to a better week for everyone!!

Is This Week Over Yet??

Friday, January 10, 2014

OH. MY. WORD.  This week has been quite the doozie!! I wasn't planning on taking such a break from blogging but I haven't even been able to complete a thought in about a week.

Monday was Sean's first day back to work in over two weeks, and lets just say I was not ready for that.  I also woke up Monday morning with a stomach virus...bleh! Luckily, I have the best husband, and even though it was his first day back, he took time to bring me necessities from Wal-Mart (i.e. Gatorade, crackers, and soup.....a lot of help they were) and came home early to help with little man.  Thankfully it only really lasted about 12 hours but my tummy has not felt the same since.

Wyatt also decided over the holidays that he was done with sleeping at night.  Not sure if it's the traveling, separation anxiety, teething, a cold, or what but it's no bueno!  So, on top of my issues, I spent just about every night this week on the couch with him.  Again, thankfully, last night was better so I'm going to pray that the changes we made last night help tonight as well. Have any of you ever had a fabulous napper and a terrible night sleeper?? I'm at a loss.....

Wednesday morning we woke up and Wyatt's eye looked awful (that's putting it nicely).  A definite case of pink eye! Luckily, his doctor is amazing and she called us in a prescription. And by Thursday, I was using it on his left eye as well.

This afternoon we're headed to see Dr. G just to make sure there's nothing else going on.  Wyatt has just not been himself this week.  I think a large part of it is that his little body is trying to fight off the the awful virus I had. Still, I'd much rather be safe than sorry.

I'm hoping that next week is much better! Some nicer weather would be nice too, just so we can get outside, but I'll take what I can get for now.
