I'm doing things a little different today. A DSLR camera was one of the top items on my Christmas wishlist this year, and thanks to my wonderful, awesome, sweet husband it has been checked off my list!
We ended up going with the Nikon D5100 with the VR (vibration reduction) lens. I could not be any happier with our decision! This camera has all the bells and whistles I could ask for, but is as easy to use as a point & shoot. I'm obviously still learning a lot about the settings, and I've been playing with the Manual mode.
I love that this camera has a screen that swivels out. It also has "live view". Which just means that I don't have to look through the viewfinder to take a picture, I can use the screen. I know some cameras don't offer that feature and so far it's been nice, especially when photographing a little one.
One of the things I like most about this camera are the tips and guides it gives you, right on the screen. There's a button with a question mark above it and when pushed it will explain a setting, mode, or effect.
Another great feature are the effects. Pictures can be taken with different effects, no PhotoShop neceessary. You can see in the picture above, I only selected red to be in color. Again, it's not perfect...yet, but it's a really fun feature!
I know some of you also had cameras on your wishlilsts so I thought I'd share this amazing deal on Amazon right now (like, I'm pretty sure it just started today)! We've seen prices on this camera go up as much as $750 so this is a great deal! Even the deal at Wal-Mart on Black Friday was not this great of a deal.
